I would be the luckiest girl in the world if I won a leg lamp! Thanks for all the wonderful commercials! To see brothers that have soooo much fun together is an inspiration.
I hope I win tickets for A Christmas story for my girlfriend.
Love the website..love the stores..love the owners especially Tim the brains behind the advertising and those great commercials! Would love to win tickets for this great Hammond/Hessville born author..thus the
Names used in the story..Hohman as in Hohman ave in Hammond ..the big downtown stores were Minus’s and Goldblatt’s. For those of us old enough to remember Christmas downtown Hammond in the 50′s was very much like described.can’t say I remember the Santa on the top of the south pole hill but we always went to see Santa and of coarse it was safe enough in those days to leave your children in line while you went elsewhere to finish your Christmas list. If you had great suburban sheltering parents as I did life was care free and Christmas was something you had a terrible time waiting for as in the movie..my older brother used to go up on the roof to simulate the giggling bells of the reindeer in fact.there are so many great memories of those days..that’s why my generation loves this movie ..iy brings back all those
Memories which we are so better at remembering now..the short term memory is disintegrating but then we can keep the lists of what it is we are supposed to do on our errand run.and besides we can revel in our grandchildren as the great reward for getting old..and if we play our cards right..they will adore us and beg their mom to go to grandma’s house were they can get anything they want to eat..go bowling with people who are really too old for it…but they get us off our backsides and meanwhile give us lots of love we thought was just a memory! The best day of my life is the day of the Christmas story marathon..warm and fuzzy and back to that secure time in the post-war boom days the economy of this country was at an all time high.can’t say there has been much of that lately..scary financial times now…fear is in the air and people are hanging on to every dime! But we can all still provide the children of this world with the most possible security and fun.they truly are only young once..and through their love they make us feel young again..a miracle in itself…my little three and three quarters granddaughter stays with us regularly along with the love of my life her ten year old brother..the handsomest boy in the world.in a recent visit this little doll decided that she and I were the same age..both of us going to be five…when did you ever get a chance to be five again! If I win the tickets I will take these two dolls with me to relive the 50′s and the fun that could be had for next to no money…what I need to find is that Hammond Times newspaper with stories of a Griffith man and baseball stories..sometimes even people with no interest in sports need to watch some so they can relax and talk about sports over that turkey dinner unless the hounds from next door got it..oh and I actually ate at that little downstown Chinese restaurant they ended up at.my mom loved the ease of oriental food and kids who love to play with the chopsticks.but she always made sure that they weren’t going to give her any of that nasty green tea..she hated it and wanted plain old Lipton which they also served if you asked for it..and this wonderful woman who made everything in our lives possible lived into her 90′s along with my dad..but you know they drank a pot of tea every night at our dinner meal..so maybe there is something in the tea key to good health.
Whoever wins please enjoy the joy of this wonderful Christmas story..and if you don’t – don’t forget the Marathon will be on and you can be comfy in your own pink bunny jammies in front of the tv while you
Serve your family whatever you Christmas day meal traditionally is.we all need to slow down and enjoy the magic moments we can create for our family and friends..plus who knows what Uncle Fred has been up to all year..just hope he doesn’t bring that nasty fruitcake again as your gift! The great thing is you can always pass it on to the mailman..problem solved!
hi Tim..just hope you and your lovely family have a great family Christmas ..maybe that is the joy of shopping at W.E.Smithe…it’s a family owned business where they really care about their customers and their employees! Plus I am in the market right now for their beautiful Feench deep sofa in it’s traditional beige linen..its the sofa you see all the Smithe children playing on in the ad..it’s so comfy and as you see seats a lot of munkins or need I say aunts and uncles..you know you will need mire seating for all that football and eggnog…Merry Merry To You All!
